22 Dogs Seized From Station Wagon!

North Texas authorities seized 22 dogs found crammed inside a station wagon with their owner.

The owner locked the car doors and refused to come out when a constable tried to serve her a warrant for the seizure of the dogs early Monday, SPCA spokeswoman Maura Davies said.

Two puppies and 20 dogs were taken to a shelter, where they will remain until a judge decides who gets custody, the SPCA said. A hearing on the custody of the animals is set for Feb. 16 in Denison.

The dogs were in the car along with a pot of water, blankets and waste.

“The car was soaked with urine and covered in feces. The ammonia level in the vehicle was 23 parts per million even after the doors had been opened for several minutes. As a frame of reference, humans start experiencing health issues at 12 parts per million,” Courtney Stevens, SPCA of Texas rescue and investigations supervisor, said in a news release.

The owner does not face charges, Grayson County constable Michael Putman said. She was not coherent and the SPCA said it has contacted Adult Protective Services about the woman.

Pottsboro is about 70 miles north of Dallas.

Jeremy Lusk Motocross Star Dies From Accident

(AP)—Jeremy Lusk, an American freestyle motocross rider, died of head injuries Tuesday after crashing while trying to land a backflip in competition. He was 24.

Jorge Ramirez, chief of the intensive care unit at Calderon Hospital where Lusk was taken, said the motocross racer suffered severe brain damage and a possible spinal cord injury.

Lusk won a gold medal at the 2008 X Games. He was injured Saturday night when he failed to complete a full rotation while attempting a Hart Attack backflip and slammed headfirst into the dirt. Lusk crashed in almost identical fashion in the freestyle semifinals at the 2007 X Games but was not hurt.

He had a successful 2008 season, winning Freestyle gold at the X Games and silver in Best Trick when he landed the first double-grab Hart Attack backflip. He won a bronze helmet in Freestyle at the Moto X World Championships in his hometown of San Diego.

Ramirez said Lusk died with his parents and his wife, Lauren, at his side.

“He was in a medicine-induced coma as a protective measure, and the medicine was being reduced to see how his body responded,” he said. “That didn’t mean he was going to wake up. He was in shock and that got worse last night, until he stopped responding and entered into cardiac and respiratory failure.”

Lusk lived in Temecula, Calif.

A trust has been set up in his memory, and donations can be made through the Athlete Recovery Fund, www.athleterecoveryfund.com

Amare Stoudemire May Get Traded

The Phoenix Suns are going to have to trade a player or face paying the luxury tax which would hurt their franchise. Wierd thing is, they are planning on trading Amare Stoudemire instead of the aging Shaquille O’neal.

Other teams are already clamoring for Stoudemire, especially one bent on rebuilding their programs. This should tell the Suns that they have a gem they should hold onto. You don’t put the 26 year old on the block when you have a 36 year old (Shaq) who you are paying a big salary to as well. Sure Amare may be struggling to pick up his defensive game, but that can be taught. You can’t teach someone to be younger. The Suns franchise will never make it to the finals this year without their young big man, you can mark my words on that.

One of the main problems is most teams are unwilling to pick up the costly $20 million dollar Shaq because they don’t have the cap room.

Mike From “Little People Big World” Dies

Michael Detjen was the family friend who would visit the Roloffs of the TLC show “Little People Big World”.

Detjen was moved to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center after having chest pains and passing out Wednesday evening at a Hillsboro Soccer Club meeting, The Oregonian reported Thursday.  He died during surgery after suffering a torn aorta.

“It is with the deepest sadness and devastation that we must inform our friends and fans of the passing of our extended family member, Mike Detjen,” Matt Roloff wrote Thursday on the family’s personal website.  “For the past eight years Mike has been a business partner, brother, coach, friend, and confidant.  He was truly like an uncle to our kids.”

Roloff said Detjen being rushed to the hospital from the meeting was a “complete and sudden surprise.”

Detjen was a fixture on the Roloffs’ Helvetia-area farm in Washington County and is most likely remembered by viewers for being injured during an October 2006 incident involving a pumpkin catapult he constructed.  Also harmed in the accident was the Roloff’s youngest child Jacob.  Detjen helped Jacob rebuild the catapult last fall in an effort to teach him to overcome the fear caused by the accident.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike and his family and friends.

Glen Rice Jr Spotlight

Glen Rice Jr is not quite as good as his sharpshooting NBA star father. But he has the size and close shooting ability to make it as a wing at a good school like Georgia Tech. He was highly recruited and picked Georgia Tech over Miami, and Florida State. He played at George Walton in High School in Georgia and was happy with his decision to go with GT.

“Georgia Tech was my top choice all along, there wasn’t really anybody else really close,” Rice Jr said over the telephone from Orlando. “It’s close to home, great academics, and I really feel like I could be part of something great with the rest of the [incoming recruiting class].”

Georgia Tech could definitely use a boost as they are at the bottom of the ACC at 1-8. Rice Jr will have to sit out his this year as a redshirt freshman.

Shawn Johnson to Join Dancing With The Stars

Shawn Johnson the American Women’s Balance Team Gold Medalist and Individual All-Around Silver Medalist from the 2008 Olympics will join “Dancing With The Stars”. Shawn Johnson will dance along with husband-and-wife competitors Jewel and Ty Murray and football great Lawrence Taylor. I believe she will be the first Olympian to be a part of this popular reality TV show. She obviously already has a lot of dance technique from her gymnastics experience. There is alwasy something new to learn, I suppose.

Tiger Woods Has A Son!

(AP) On the day Tiger Woods usually hoists a trophy at Torrey Pines, the world’s No. 1 golfer was busy with the birth of his first son.

Woods announced on his Web site early Monday that his wife, Elin, had given birth to a boy, Charlie Axel Woods. It is the couple’s second child following the birth of daughter Sam Alexis in June 2007 on the day after the U.S. Open.

“Elin and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our son, Charlie Axel Woods, who was born on Sunday February 8, 2009,” Woods wrote in the statement. “Both Charlie and Elin are doing great and we want to thank everyone for their sincere best wishes and kind thoughts. Sam is very excited to be a big sister and we feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful family.

“I also want to thank our doctors, nurses and the hospital staff for their personal and professional care. We look forward to introducing Charlie to you at the appropriate time, and again thanks from all of us for your kindness and support.”

The 33-year-old Woods is a six-time winner of the Buick Invitational, where he also won the U.S. Open last summer for his 14th career major. That was the last tournament he has played because of knee surgery a week later that ended his 2008 season. He is expected to return before the Masters, possibly as early as the Accenture Match Play Championship on Feb. 25.

He wrote in a newsletter last week that his return to golf would depend largely on the birth of his second child.

Woods was the only child born of his parents, Earl and Tida Woods. He had said after his marriage in 2004 that he looked forward to having more than one child.

Nick Watney won the Buick Invitational on Sunday, the sixth time that Woods has been unable to defend a title since his knee surgery.
